COMPETITION PROCEDURES

CHECKING IN

Participants must complete all forms (i.e. Registration, Cal Poly University Liability Waiver, Video/Audio/Image Release, and Fees) prior to check-in.

Check-in begins April 26th at 10:00am. Check-in for Cal Poly students will be located at Dexter Lawn. Check-in for guests will be located at the H-16 parking lot.

Proof of identity (Driver's License or School ID) is required to complete the check-in process.

Participants are not allowed into the canyon with structural material until every team member has checked in and a DV staff member verifies their wristband.

Participants are not allowed into the canyon without close-toed shoes.

TRANSPORTING YOUR STRUCTURE TO THE SITE

Each team of competitors must arrive at The Architectural Experimental Laboratory's entrance with their project components in hand.

Structures and personal items must be manually carried from the entrance gate, along the canyon road, to the competition site.

Any device used to transport your structure along the canyon road must be incorporated into the design and must be propelled by human power. The use of carts and other commercially manufactured transportation devices to carry structural components is not permitted.

Absolutely no vehicles are allowed into the site until 10:00am on April 30th. Campus police regularly cite and tow cars parked along the canyon road. Shuttles and/or power carts will be available throughout the weekend for your use. The use of bicycles is highly encouraged.

SETTING UP

Team sites are selected on a first-come, first-serve basis.

You may assemble your structure within the designated boundaries of the site.

Your structure must maintain at least 6 feet of distance from other structures at all times.

There is no size limitation to your site or structure, but be sensible with the verticality of your design. Wind gusts in the evening can be extremely high.

Power tools and other large construction machinery are prohibited past the canyon entrance. Handheld tools such as screwdrivers and hammers are permitted past the canyon entrance and can be used to aid in setting up and taking down your structures.

Guy wires, ropes, or any tension lines used to support your structure must have flagging that is visible at night. Teams without appropriate flagging will receive a strike that can contribute to future disqualification. Injuries resulting from improper flagging of wires may be cause for immediate disqualification.

Structures must be completed by civil twilight (8pm) on Aril 26th.

CLEANING UP

Dismantling structures may not begin before 7:00am Sunday morning and all materials must be completely removed by 12:00pm.

Event facilitators will allow limited numbers of participant vehicles to drive to the site.

"Pack it in, Pack it out." All competitors must remove all trash, stakes, wires, etc. in and around their site prior to leaving the canyon on Sunday, April 28th.
